Community College Credit Building Initiative (CCCBI)

BBC is excited to announce the launch of CCCBI, a partnership between BBC, Jewish Vocational Service (JVS), and Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA). Understanding the necessity of access to credit building education, this Initiative brings credit building services to students at Bunker Hill and Roxbury Community Colleges. CCCBI embeds credit building within the landscape of student services via a credit building team made up of JVS and IBA service providers offering workshops and one-on-one financial coaching. The CCCBI team is officially kicking off the project with the start of the new Spring Semester at Bunker Hill Community College, and is poised to do the same at Roxbury in the upcoming months. This Initiative was made possible by a Community Development Block Grant from the City of Boston.

Partner Forum Kicks Off New Governance Structure

On January 9th, 2020 BBC held our first partner forum of the year! Over 50 people representing organizations from across sectors were in the room, from community partners to financial institutions, to credit bureaus. The BBC team was excited to share our new governance structure with the network and discuss how that structure will inform the direction of BBC in the new year. BBC's new governance structure is designed to share power in shaping and driving the initiative with our partners and Boston residents. An expanded Board will be responsible for setting and overseeing the strategic vision of the initiative as well as monitoring progress made. The initiative's annual goals will be set and developed by various committees made up of cross-sector partners and Boston residents. Committees will form around key strategic areas, and the current committees include Service Delivery, Systems Change, Safe Products, and Strategic Learning. If you are interested in joining one of these committees or in establishing a new one to cover a topic you feel is critical, please fill out the survey below from our partner forum earlier this month. Last but not least, BBC staff will oversee, coordinate, and provide logistical support to the network. They will also manage communications, community engagement and strategic learning for the network. If you have any questions about this new governance system, please feel free to reach out to our Director, Allison. As the forum progressed, we broke into groups to discuss two strategic focus areas for BBC in 2020: systems change and community engagement. Collectively, we identified a need for a shift in how our communities understand, access, and address their finances and credit. We explored strategies like a change in the public school curriculum - a systems change- or engaging and developing relationships with established community hubs - a commitment to intentional community engagement. We are thrilled about the collaboration underway and the community that is being built, and welcome you to join, too! If you would like more information on getting involved, connect with us here.
