Financial Coaching Televent at WCBV
In partnership with a dozen of our nonprofit partners, Boston Builds Credit participated in a daylong televent on WCVB in June. As a part of WCVB's Project CommUNITY, the televent was designed to raise awareness of financial coaching services in the Boston area. Over 350 individuals had their questions answered by volunteer coaches that day. A big thank you goes out to Mayor Martin J. Walsh and WCVB for helping to spread awareness and to our volunteers from the City of Boston, JPNDC, JVS, IBA, the JFK Family Service Center, NOAH, ACCC, La Alianza Hispana, QCAP, The Neightborhood Developers, Victory Programs, LISC, and the United Way.As part of this televent, BBC and our partners participated in three television spots highlighting the basic rules of thumb for credit building, the racial wealth gap, and the importance of focusing on building credit early in life. New Research & Publications
BBC is committed to engaging in strategic learning at all levels of our work. As research and evaluations are published, we will share them with our community through this newsletter and on our website.
In our first year, we put strategic learning at the forefront in four major ways:
1. Process Evaluation & Progress Report with the Heller School The Institute on Assets and Social Policy (IASP) at the Heller School at Brandeis created a progress report for the initiative's first year and conducted a process evaluation of the first year of our place-based pilot in Roxbury. Thank you to Citi Community Development and Bank of America for the funding that made both these reports possible.

2. Leadership Team Lessons Brief To complement the work being done by IASP, the BBC leadership team conducted a Meaning Making sessions with our Evaluation & Learning Consultant, Keri-Nicole Dillman, PhD. The team focused in on two core dimensions of the team's work in this phase of the initiative: (1) governing and managing a collective impact initiative, and (2) strengthening the credit building ecosystem in Roxbury.
Read the Leadership Team Lessons Brief.
3. Planning Guide BBC worked with Credit Builders Alliance to create a planning guide for municipalities interested in starting initiatives like BBC. This guide shares lessons learned from the creation of BBC, covering the initiative design and launch phase, and provides instructions on how to design and launch a credit building initiative tailored to the needs of your community. Thank you to the Equifax Foundation for the generous support needed to bring this guide to life.
4. Year One Convening Back in May, BBC held an event to reflect on the initiative's first year and its impact. Read more about this in our July Newsletter.
Check out the BBC website for a list of upcoming workshops in September and October, including introduction to credit building and financial coaching workshops.
